"My first trip to Alaska, a tough
adventure, backpack
hunt for Dall Sheep. We saw six rams, eleven Griz, two Wolves , and
one Wolverine. Jake is the best game spotter I have ever seen and
can carry his weight in camp and sheep meat. Thanks Jake for a great
hunt." Rod Mease |
Dall
Sheep are the cherry on the sundae of Alaska’s mountains. Backpacking
through the valley floors of the Talkeetna Mountains and glassing
drainages is the method of these hunts.
Hunters will need to prepare to pack 50-65lbs for
the duration of their sheep hunt. Spike camps consisting of one man tents
create the freedom to relocate should the sheep move or other factors
dictate camp locations. Quality WATER-PROOF footwear that is suitable for
walking on rocky terrain and side-hilling for extended periods of time is
necessary.
| "2005 Dall Sheep Hunt: Awesome is how I
would express my experience. It was a rare opportunity to experience
people of Jake and Amber’s caliber. His assistance from start to
finish, helping me with every aspect of my hunt was instrumental in
making it such a success. Jake’s equipment and knowledge in the
field was everything one could expect. It would be my honor to
recommend Black River Hunting Camps to anyone wanting to experience
a hunt of a lifetime; I know I did." Ron Swecker. |

Prior to the hunter’s arrival, (weather depending), clients have the
option of a scouting flight that can be flown to locate perspective rams
and determine exact hunting locations.
Sheep hunts take place the second half of August.
Rams harvested will typically range from 34”-38”, with a 40” ram being
exceptional.
